Mobile Techincal Trainer, Satnam Singh
Supporting customers on their learning journey
Based in Leicestershire, Satnam predominantly covers the east and south east, but as a keen runner and Parkrun volunteer he’s always on the move! We caught up with him before he raced off to train in Plymouth.
“My mission is to pass on new technologies so all those operating and maintaining our vehicles are better informed, with improved skill and knowledge,” explains Satnam. “We train engineers, drivers, operators and Dennis Eagle colleagues across the cab, chassis, body and bin lift, as well as eCollect our fully electric RCV and General Safety Requirements 2 (GSR2) future legislation for HGVs so they can repair, service and maintain vehicles safely and efficiently.”
For Satnam, his role is all about empowering teams and enhancing the Dennis Eagle experience. “We help people to understand the function and operation of all the various systems so they are able to better diagnose and fix an issue, as well as work safely and efficiently. And that’s going to be meaningful, adding value to everybody’s day. It also lays the foundations for future vehicle and training requirements – I aim to add value every time I deliver training,” expresses Satnam.
With 23 years of experience training previously at the AA, Ford and Volkswagen, working together in-person particularly resonates with him. “Being able to walk someone around a RCV and show them how elements work and how to keep safe is most effective. In some sectors, we see different faces at the training sessions, which gives lots of variety. Across other courses you see regular faces and build a rapport. Even if it’s the same course, it’s always varied – we encourage people to challenge and ask questions, so it’s always different.”
But he’s also keen to see how virtual courses will become part of the mix in the coming years. “I’m excited about how training will evolve. I’d love to see a future where technicians in our industry can put on augmented reality glasses, go into that virtual world to practice so they can apply it to real life.”
Ultimately, for Satnam, that personal touch is the most important element of his role: “Helping people to grow and nurturing that talent is really important and rewarding. I’ve trained people that have just left school; to watch them go on a learning journey and progress, growing in confidence, working safely, following the correct processes and becoming master technicians – the highest accolade in their field – that’s a real joy and creates tremendous pride. That’s what drives me.”
