With its superbly presented trucks, smart team wear and attention to detail at every lift, Manchester-based Lavelles is leading a new wave of operator in the North West. Despite starting in just 2016, it already runs 30 trucks and has 40 staff focussed on customer excellence at every touch point. Now it’s ordered five Olympus bodies for its new Scania trucks to satisfy growing demand.
No Charlatans
The North West waste scene is a crowded market but Lavelles identified a gap by bringing back the forgotten art of customer service. With the aim to leave a site in a better state than when they arrived, the customer list grew and grew. A new depot in Chorley joined the Bolton headquarters in late 2024 to support the increasing number of facilities managers, food manufacturers, industrial plants and apartments now opting for Lavelles’ waste collection.
Simply Green
Having fully researched the market for what’s on offer, Lavelles opted for the Olympus bodies for its 2025 Scanias. “I was a driver myself and know what is important to make working efficient and lives easier. Olympus is a tried and tested body and, after a factory visit to Warwick, we were hugely impressed by the clinical way they are assembled and painted,” says director Sam Lavelle. “The finish of our trucks is critical to our promotion and Dennis Eagle was able to accommodate requests to paint the blade and rear ejector in our distinctive green. No one is any doubt which waste collector is in front now!”
Aside from the build quality and functionality, Sam was delighted by the support during both the purchase process and once they entered service. “I was sceptical that we’d get the right attention – we were ‘only’ ordering five bodies but, in fact, it was a breath of fresh air. We have been made to feel special from day one,” adds Sam. “Communication, technical support plus getting the specification we wanted – it’s all been first class. Dennis Eagle made everything possible.”
Happy Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
With the first units serving general waste and cardboard collection, with bins ranging from 120 to 1,100 litres, feedback from the operators has been unanimously positive, too. With the Olympus ideal for large volumes of domestic and recycling waste being lifted, it’s right at home on the busy Manchester City Centre and Trafford Park industrial routes with up to 250 lifts per day, five days a week.
Get the Message with Electronic(s)
Whilst the hardware is usually the priority for truck operators, Lavelle’s ‘digital first’ approach to its services prioritised connected solutions to improve efficiency and safety. “The data from Terberg’s portal is intuitive. In the past, the systems we had needed a techie to make sense of the data but Terberg’s is fast, easy to read and crucially connects with both the Scania data and Waste Logic’s software,” claims Sam. “We have 360˚views of the truck in real time and the weighing data correlates - providing an accurate picture at all times.”
Rising Star on the Northside
The future is bright for Lavelles and it’s likely that its distinctive trucks will be seen further afield. “We plan meticulously and if we can maintain the standards that our customers rightly expect, we’ll keep growing,” concludes Sam.
